The " eucibus " range is a series of unstructured, pureed and ready-to-use food products, dedicated to people suffering from dysphagia or difficulty in swallowing that accompanies many short or long term illnesses in a permanent or transient way. It may be moderated in many elderly and frail people and is associated with increased dependence. Dysphagia and/or chewing and swallowing difficulties should be considered mainly as an age-related syndrome.
Disorders of chewing while swallowing and in the most extreme cases dysphagia have a negative impact on the patient's quality of life and can also lead to serious consequences, such as:
tracheobronchial aspiration (34%) which occurs silently and increases the risk of pneumonia from swallowing by about 10 times.
⮚ malnutrition (48%) and dehydration (75%).
Social isolation, i.e. the patient refuses to eat in public or in company.
Difficulty chewing and swallowing negatively affects, in general, the patient's quality of life.
Mealtime inevitably becomes a traumatic event for the awareness of having to depend on others to feed us and for the difficulty and utter lack of satisfaction in taking in food preparations that taste "inexplicable" and are perceived as not very rewarding.
The eucibus nutrition program offers the right nutritional intake, through a complete range of foods, preserving the aroma and taste of the original recipes, thus improving the food experience and restoring the real and natural enjoyment of food.
Dysphagia can be diagnosed by flexible endoscopy, radiography and video fluoroscopy procedures . However, it is not always feasible to perform these procedures in patients with dysphagia. For example, video-fluoroscopy only observes the area of the mouth from the top of the chest to the pharynx. It cannot detect abnormalities of the oesophagus and a barium swallow test is performed for this purpose. The lack of standardised diagnostic tests is severely limiting the growth of the dysphagia supplements market.
